Deterring the public: Sustrans notices

I am pleased that, eventually, some very misleading Sustrans signs are to be changed. The signs – next to Footpath signs – claim that there is no public right of way, only a permissive route.  Absolutely wrong – and not even on cycle tracks.

Examples are on Footpath 61 along the old railway line in Efail Isaf, and on the main road to Trefforest above the Devil’s Steps where Footpath 107 goes down the steps, crosses the cycle path, and goes over the railway bridge and down to the river.

After meeting with the new Rights of Way officer for Rhondda-Cynon-Taff, I am expecting some results – it is bad of Sustrans to allow this to happen, and to deter the public from using paths which are on the Definitive Map of rights of way.  Things like that make Open Spaces Society’s local correspondents reach grumpily for the keyboard to complain – even if a member of Sustrans from way back before they got big.

The old railway line is wet over a hard surface, and has the old platform of Efail Isaf station still visible under the brambles and undergrowth.
